Brewing news USA, FL: Jekyll Brewing debuts in Jacksonville Beach

Debuting in Jacksonville Beach, a Metro Atlanta-based restaurant and microbrewery is serving up 24 craft beers on tap along with a menu featuring a Bison-Waygu beef burger and innovative Low Country fare, the Florida Times-Union reported on June 5.

Jekyll Brewing also features a renovated Airstream travel trailer as the centerpiece of its second-floor bar.

Just two blocks from the ocean, the brewpub joins Jax Beach Town Center, 131 1st Ave. N., next door to Oaxaca Club, a "first-of-its-kind" Mexican restaurant featuring inspired Latin-influenced cuisine that opened in March.

It is the first in Florida from the Alpharetta, Ga.-based brewpub. But a second location is planned for Gainesville, Michael Lundmark, Jekyll Brewing founder and CEO previously told the Times-Union.

“Jekyll Brewing is so much more than a brewery. We are a brewery, a distillery, a winery, a coffee roaster and an executive chef-run kitchen,” Lundmark said of the growing restaurant chain that already has three locations in Georgia.

Lundmark also noted the brand “pays homage to the first brewery of the Deep South built on Jekyll Island in the 1730s” about 73 miles north of Jacksonville.

“Our food is focused around Low Country fare, but don’t sleep on our high-end smash burger, made with a blend of Wagyu and bison," Lundmark told the Times-Union, adding that he’s focused on “building the largest craft brew R&D infrastructure in the South.”

Jekyll Brewing pledges a "new beer release each week." The brewpub offers a year-round selection as well as seasonal brews on tap.

Beers at the Jacksonville Beach location include Jack Town Coastal Lager, Big Creek Kolsch-style Ale, Pineapple Habanero Hop Dang IPA, Moon People Belgian Wit and Cooter Brown American Brown Ale, the menu shows.

The Jacksonville Beach location joins three Georgia locations: two in Alpharetta and one in Woodstock. Targeting an August opening is a Jekyll Brewing at The Chair Factory in Gainesville, which will be the second in North Florida, the company's website shows.

"We're excited about opening and excited to being in the area and looking forward to growing our business there," Joy Foster, company communications manager, told the Times-Union.

The brewpub lists its hours as 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, according to its website.
